LSU Track Plays Host to Alumni Gold Relays

BATON ROUGE — For the second time in the three weeks the LSU track and field teams will compete here at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium as the Tigers and Lady Tigers get set to host the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational this Friday and Saturday.

Competition will begin Friday at 4 p.m. with the men’s decathlon and the women’s heptathlon competitions. Action will continue Saturday with the field events at 10:30 a.m. and the running events at 1 p.m.

LSU will welcome many of the top teams from around Louisiana and its bordering states as Tulane, New Orleans, UL-Lafayette and Southeastern Louisiana highlight the field of nine collegiate teams on hand this weekend.

The second-ranked Tigers and Lady Tigers enter the meet on the heels of a sensational performance at the 76th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays a week ago. The women combined to win an impressive four event titles, three in world leading time, to earn the distinction of the meet’s Most Outstanding Collegiate Team.

The men posted top-three finishes in multiple relay events and where led by junior John Moffitt in the field as he recorded a win in the triple jump and a second-place finish in the long jump.

LSU will look to better its already outstanding performances of the early outdoor season this weekend, as its top 4×100 and 4×400-meter relay teams will again take to the track.

Saturday will also mark the debut of sophomore Bennie Brazell in the 400-meter hurdles. Brazell finished second in the event at the NCAA Championships last season and returns for his sophomore campaign as favorite in the event come June.

Following the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational, the Tiger and Lady Tiger track teams will return to action, April 17-19, at the Mt. SAC Relays in Claremont, Calif. In addition, LSU will compete some individuals at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational in nearby Walnut, Calif., on April 19.
