BATON ROUGE — After sensational performances at the 76th annual Texas Relays over the weekend, the LSU women’s sprint relay teams were named the Athletes of the Week by Trackshark.com, it was announced Monday.
The 4×200-meter relay team of Nadia Davy, Monique Hall, Stephanie Durst and Muna Lee combined to set a collegiate record in the event, turning in a scorching time of 1:30.07. The time shattered the previous collegiate best mark of 1:30.93 set by Texas in 1999 and ranks as the top time in the world this season.
Durst, Hall and Lee later combined with Lolo Jones to record another world-leading mark, this time in the 4×100-meter relay. The Lady Tigers blew by the competition with an astounding time of 42.63. The foursome’s mark ranks second all-time in school history as it came up just shy of the collegiate and school record time of 42.50 set by LSU in 1989.
Individually, Jones and Lee concluded their performances at the Texas Relays with phenomenal showings in the 100-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash, respectively. Jones, named the Texas Relays Most Outstanding Performer, won the 100-meter hurdles with a world leading and meet record-tying time of 12.90, while Lee became just the third women in LSU history to crack the 11 second barrier in the 100 meters, winning the event crown with a time of 10.97.
The LSU track and field team returns to action this weekend when it hosts the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational, April 11-12, at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
