Zeringue Named LSWA Hitter of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU outfielder Jon Zeringue and McNeese State pitcher John Doerfler have been named Louisiana’s baseball players of the week, the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association announced on Tuesday.

Zeringue, a sophomore from Thibodaux, belted four home runs to go with six RBI in leading LSU to a 2-2 mark last week to earn the state’s hitter of the week award. Zeringue hit one home run in each game last week, starting with the New Orleans contest on Tuesday. He followed that with three home runs over the weekend as the Tigers took two out of three games against Alabama.

For the week, Zeringue hit .353 and added five runs on six hits for the Tigers.

Doerfler, a junior from Phoenix, Ariz., tossed a three-hitter in leading McNeese State to a 2-1 win over Louisiana-Monroe in Southland Conference action on Sunday. Doerfler went all nine innings for the Cowboys, striking out four and walking just two in handing the Indians their first conference loss of the season. Doerfler improved to 4-2 with the win.
