BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. — The LSU women’s golf team opened up in 15th place Friday in the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate women’s golf tournament at the Brian Park Golf Course.
The Lady Tigers post an opening round of 26-over 314 in the 54-hole tournament which continues through Sunday.
Duke is the team leader at 2-under 286, eight shots better than South Carolina at 6-over 294. Tulsa and co-host Wake Forest are tied for third at 9-over 297, with SEC foes Auburn, Tennessee and Vanderbilt tied for fifth at 298.
Kristina Engstrom of Duke and Kristy McPherson of South Carolina are tied for the individual lead at 3-under 69. In all nine players shot even par or better in the tournament’s opening day.
Brooke Shelton had the best score of the day for LSU with a 74, 2-over par, tied for 16th place. Shelton had a two-over 38 on the front side and brought the back nine home in even par. LSU’s other counting scores came from Vicky Meyer (78), Devon Day (80) and Isabel Dornellas 82.
