BIRMINGHAM, England — Three former LSU track standouts turned in outstanding performances at the IAAF World Championships over the weekend returning home with gold and silver medals for their respective countries.

A six-time national champion and nine-time All-American while at LSU, Walter Davis finished second in the triple jump competition with a PR jump of 56-11 1/4. Only Sweden’s Olsson Christian bettered Davis’s distance, recording the top mark in the world this season, 58-1, to win the event.

Also medalling for the United States was sprinter Derrick Brew. Brew, a four-time All-American as a Tiger, ran the second-leg on the men’s 4×400-meter relay team that clocked the second fastest time in the world this year, 3:02.09, during the preliminary round of competition. The team’s mark set up a world championship performance by the United States’ team that clocked the fastest time in the world this season, 3:04.09, to win the event finals.

Also in the 4×400-meter finals Lueroy Colquhoun brought home silver as a member of Jamaica’s mile relay team. The seven-time All-American ran the lead leg on the 4×400 squad that clocked a time of 3:04.21.
