Swimming Teams Adds Three Signees For 2002-03

BATON ROUGE — The LSU swimming and diving program announced the signing of three more athletes on Tuesday, bringing the total to four for the year, it was announced by head coach Jeff Cavana.

LSU signed the first athlete for this season, Megan Wolters of Cleveland, Miss., last month. The new signees are Lauren Nash of Baton Rouge, Jenna Molinski of Memphis, Tenn., and Robbie Leininger of Mandeville, La., the brother of current Lady Tiger Laura Leininger.

Nash is a product of Parkview Baptist high school and was coached there by LSU alum Jan Ripple. Nash was the state champion in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle this season. She also swims for the Crawfish Aquatics under the direction of Jimmy Roberts. She chose LSU over Florida State and Texas A&M.

“We are excited about our three latest signees and are glad that they have chosen LSU,” said Cavana. “Lauren has shown a great deal of improvement over the past few years and will add much-needed depth to our sprint events.”

Molinski is a Junior National and Sectionals finalist in both the 200-yard individual medley and 400-yard IM. She also swims in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events. Molinski maintained a perfect 4.0 gpa at St. Agnes Academy. She also swam for David Smith in the Memphis Tigers age-group team. Molinski chose LSU over the likes of Arizona State, Clemson, Tennessee and New Mexico.

“Molinski can come in right away and be a big impact and score at the SEC Championships in the 400-yard individual medley,” said Cavana.

Leininger attended Mandeville high school and also swam for Franco’s Fins age-group team under coach Billy Newport. He finished third in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle at the state championships this season. He chose LSU over Florida State, Kentucky, Tampa and Florida Atlantic.

“Robbie is an up-and-coming sprinter that has really improved within the last year and will be an added asset to our sprint program. It is always nice when you can recruit in Louisiana and keep the top-notch swimmers, like Robbie and Lauren from leaving the state.”
