Baseball Game Postponed; Doubleheader Set For 2 p.m.

BATON ROUGE — For the second time in the last three weeks, LSU has lost a Friday night battle to Mother Nature, as the Fighting Tigers’ contest with Southeastern Conference leader Alabama has been postponed due to rain.

The game has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader set for Saturday starting at 2 p.m., with the second game to follow approximately 50 minutes after the completion of the first game. Fans will need their Friday ticket for admission to the first game and their Saturday ticket for admission to the second game, as the stadium will be cleared at the end of the first game. Under SEC policy, both games on Saturday will be nine innings.

Severe thunderstorms moved into the Baton Rouge area at 1:30 p.m., and the rain persisted until the decision to call the game was made by LSU game management officials at 4:30 p.m. Under SEC policy, a can start as late as 9 p.m. local time to avoid postponement, but with a 70 percent chance of rain was forecasted through Saturday morning and an already saturated playing field, coaches Jim Wells of Alabama and Smoke Laval of LSU determined it was not in the best interest of the teams to play tonight.

LSU’s game on May 3 at Tennessee was washed out, as well as games on February 19 at Centenary, March 1 at home vs. Long Beach State, and March 31 at home vs. Mississippi State,. The Mississippi State game was not made up since Sunday SEC games cannot be rescheduled, while all of the other previous rainouts were rescheduled for the next day.

The third game of the series, which will be the regular-season finale for both teams, is still set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
