Softball Lands Five on SEC Academic Honor Roll

BATON ROUGE — As third-ranked LSU prepares its NCAA Regional opening game against Northwestern State, five Tiger softball players were named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, it was announced by the league office.

Jill Crawford, April Janzen, Britni Sneed, Julie Wiese and Auburne Ziober were all named to the honor roll from LSU.

Janzen, a senior in elementary education, Sneed, a senior in kinesiology, and Wiese, a sophomore in kinesiology, are active members of the 2002 team, which claimed the SEC Championship and the SEC Tournament title. Janzen and Sneed are both three-time members of the honor roll.

Ziober completed her eligibility last season and Crawford transferred to Tennessee-Chattanooga.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have a 3.0 grade point average for the past year or for their career, be a sophomore in academic classification, and have 24 semester hours countable toward a degree. The 2002 SEC Softball Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2000-2001 academic calendar.

A total of 65 student-athletes were named to the list. The University of Kentucky topped the list with nine student-athletes on the academic roster. Ole Miss and Tennessee was close behind with seven honorees each.

Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi State each had six selections, while LSU was one of four schools with five members on the honor roll, including Auburn, Florid and Georgia. Tennessee had four players selected.
