BATON ROUGE — The LSU swimming and diving team picked up its first commitment for the 2002-03 season, as Megan Wolters, a native of Cleveland, Miss., signed with the Tigers this week, it was announced by head coach Jeff Cavana.
Wolters attends Cleveland high school and also swims for the Delta State Aquatic Club. She was a U.S. Open Finalist in the 200-yard backstroke this past December in New York and also swam in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly there. Wolters was also a senior national qualifier in the 200-yard backstroke.
Wolters specializes in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, the 100-fly and the 200-yard freestyle, but also swims in such events as the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle and both the 200 and 400-yard individual medley.
“We are so glad that Megan has signed with LSU, because she is one of the best female swimmers in the country this year coming out of high school,” said Cavana. “Megan is one of the best girls we have ever signed, and she will help bring our women’s team to another level.”
Wolters was also considering Tennessee, Auburn, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and Purdue.
“I want to give all the credit for this signing to assistant coach Lars Jorgensen for staying on Megan throughout the entire recruiting process, he had a great influence on why Megan chose LSU.”
