AUGUSTA, Ga. — The LSU men’s golf team will travel to Augusta, Ga., to participate in the 24th Annual Cleveland Golf/ASU Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.
The tournament will be LSU’s final event of the regular season before the Tigers head to the 2002 Southeastern Conference Championships on April 19-21 at Sea Island, Ga. The tournament will feature two rounds on Saturday and then the final 18 holes on Sunday at the par-72, 6,875 yd. course.
The event will feature 10 of the top 25 teams in the nation, as well as four SEC teams in addition to LSU. Augusta State University, the host, won the tournament last season with a 8-under 856 total. ASU’s Oliver Wilson was the 2001 medalist with a 9-under 207 score. The Tigers finished fourth at the tournament last season, highlighted by a 4-under 284 in the second round.
LSU is coming off an eighth-place finish at the Schenkel/E-Z-Go Invitational on March 23-24 at Statesboro, Ga. Senior Nathan Goulding earned his fourth top-10 finish at the Schenkel, firing a 1-over 217 to tie for ninth place. Goulding is tied with freshman Heath West for the team lead in stroke average (72.0) and both players have played 25 rounds, which is second on the team. Goulding also has five top-20 finishes. West, a true freshman from Dothan, Ala., has posted two top-10 finishes this season and is making a push for 2002 SEC Freshman of the Year.
