COLUMBIA, Mo. — After breaking two LSU hitting records and currently riding an eight-game hitting streak, Tiger outfielder Trena Peel was named the NFCA/Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday.
For the week, the senior from Aurora, Colo., hit .476 (10-for-21) in six Southeastern Conference games to lead LSU to a 5-1 mark, including eight runs scored, seven RBIs, four triples and a home run.
For the season, she has hit 10 triples, breaking Jodi Otten’s single-season record of nine. She also improved her career triple total to 23, breaking Dee Douglas’ record of 20. She is now just one triple shy of the SEC single-season record.

In the second game against No. 24 South Carolina, she knocked in the eighth run of the game on a triple to give LSU the eight-run-rule win. In the third game against USC, she tripled and then scored on a wild pitch to give LSU their only run in the 1-0 win.
Peel leads the Tigers in batting average, hitting .404 for the season with a .687 slugging percentage. She also leads the team with nine stolen bases and 21 RBIs.
LSU will host Southeastern Conference Eastern Division-leading Georgia in a three-game series at Tiger Park this weekend. The series begins with a doubleheader at 11 a.m. on Saturday and concludes with a single game on Sunday at 11 a.m.
