BATON ROUGE — LSU opened spring practice with a two-hour session in shorts and t-shirts at the LSU Practice Facility here Saturday.
The Tigers, the defending Southeastern Conference Champions, worked on all phases of the game, including special teams, on Saturday. LSU also spent time working on individual drills as well as seven-on-seven and nine-on-seven drills.
“I thought we had a good workout,” LSU coach Nick Saban said. “I thought the thing that I talked about with the off-season program being a good one and the players being in good shape, certainly carried over into the practice today. I thought practice was upbeat and enthusiastic and we got a lot done.
“The carry over is good with the older players and we got a lot of turns for the younger guys to see what they could do. Effort was not a problem. The intensity was not a problem. I think there was a lot of carry over and those are all positive things.”
Saban said after practice that senior offensive lineman Terry Phillips has decided to give up football.
LSU will practice again in shorts and t-shirts on Monday, followed by full pad workouts on Tuesday and Thursday. LSU will then a week off for Spring Break and will resume practices on Monday, April 8.
