ATHENS, Ga. — The LSU Lady Tigers posted a 23-over round of 311 to finish in a tie for seventh here Friday after the first round of the 2002 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
The Tigers are 14-shots behind host-leader Georgia which toured the par 72 layout in 9-over par 297, four shots better than Florida and Furman.
Auburn, South Carolina and Mississippi State stand in front of LSU, tied with Wake Forest for seventh.
Senior Meredith Duncan of Shreveport again led the Tigers in scoring with a 3-over par score of 75, good enough for a tie for 10th place, four shots back of the lead held by Mississippi State’s Anna Gertsson.
Other counting scores for LSU on the cool opening day were freshman Brooke Shelton at 6-over 78 and sophomore Devon Day and senior Lindy Hitdlebaugh at 7-over79.
“We just need to make some putts and concentrate on each shot as it comes and not let the bad ones bother us,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen.
The 54-hole tournament runs through Sunday.
