Lady Tigers Golfers Travel to Liz Murphey

ATHENS, Ga. — The LSU Lady Tiger golf team and nine other Southeastern Conference teams get a preview look at the course the SEC Women’s Championships will be played on in one month as they take part this weekend in the 30th Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.

The tournament begins on Friday on the par-72, 6,104 yard University of Georgia Golf Course.

Along with LSU and Georgia, the defending NCAA women’s champions, other SEC teams in the field include Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and South Carolina. Others in the field include Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Furman, Memphis, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina and Wake Forest.

Duke is the defending champions with a three-day total of 38-over par.

LSU will go with its standard lineup of Meredith Duncan, Brooke Shelton, Isabel Dornellas, Lindy Hitdlebaugh and Devon Day in an attempt to improve on last week’s 12th place finish at the Lady Gamecock Classic.

“We want to improve our position and this is the time of the year we need to start making a move,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We need to concentrate on every shot and make some good things happen for us.”

The Tigers after this event return to Baton Rouge to host the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic April 5-7 at the University Club.
