Final Game of Softball Series Cancelled Due to Rain

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Fourth-ranked LSU and Tennessee were set to play the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday, however Mother Nature would not cooperate.

After constant rain for nearly five hours on Sunday morning which lasted into the afternoon, the 1 p.m. EST game was cancelled. The game will not be made up.

After such a downpour, there was no way the field would have been ready for game action early enough to ensure the Tigers making their 6:45 p.m. flight back to Baton Rouge.

On Saturday, the teams split a twinbill. LSU opened with a dominating performance from Britni Sneed en route to a 5-0 win. Sneed no-hit the Lady Vols while compiling 16 strikeouts on the afternoon.

In the nightcap, Tennessee scored all of its runs on homers as it blasted three long balls in beating the Tigers, 4-2. LSU had its chances late, but left the bases loaded in the fifth and stranded two more in the sixth.

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday when it hosts Mississippi State in a doubleheader that begins at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs have been ranked as high as 22nd this year.
