BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — LSU senior pitcher Britni Sneed has been named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Sneed, a Houston, Texas native, was 2-0 for this past weekend with a pair of wins over Florida in the Tigers opening weekend of SEC play.
She did not allow a run in 14 innings pitched while giving up just five hits and walking four. She also struck out 27 batters, including 17 in one game which is an LSU seven-inning game record.
With her 10th strikeout in the 17-K game, she reached 1,000 career strikeout mark, becoming just the 12th player in NCAA history to accomplish the feat.
Sneed carried an impressive streak of 33 consecutive innings with at least one strikeout into the weekend. She extended it to 41 straight innings before Florida snapped it in the second inning of Sunday’s game.
With the pair of shutouts, Sneed now has thrown a shutout in each of her last five starts and owns a scoreless streak of 28 straight innings.
LSU and Sneed will be back in action with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at noon at Tennessee.
