HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. — LSU senior to be golfer Meredith Duncan continued her march to defending her crown Friday with two overtime wins in the 101st Women’s Western Golf Association Amateur Championships at the Exmoor Country Club.
Duncan’s two wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals puts her in Saturday’s 36-hole final against Candie Kung. Kung is 3-0 all time in match play against Duncan.
Duncan’s two matches both were even after 18 holes and had to go back to the second hole, the 20th of the day for the decision. In the quarterfinal match, Duncan birdied the second hole from three feet to down Duke sophomore Virada Nirapathpongporn.
The semifinal match was just as tight and again went to the second hole before Duncan got a 1-up decision over Ohio State senior Mollie Fankhauser.
Kung, a native of Taiwan and a junior at Southern California, made 10 birdies in her two wins on Friday.
