BATON ROUGE — LSU pitcher Roy Corcoran has signed a free-agent contract with the Montreal Expos and will not return to the Tigers for his senior season.
Corcoran is the second member of the 2001 LSU squad to forego his senior year for professional baseball. First baseman Bryan Moore, a 22nd-round draft choice, signed with the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this week.
Corcoran, a right-hander from Slaughter, La., led the 2001 LSU staff in appearances with 28, including three starts. He posted an 8-4 mark and a 5.48 ERA with 31 walks and 62 strikeouts in 69 innings.
Corcoran transferred to LSU last fall after two seasons at Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College.
He enjoyed a stellar high school career at Silliman Institute in Clinton, La.
