More Than 1.1 Million Fans Watched the Tigers in 2000-01

BATON ROUGE — More than 1.1 million fans attended LSU sporting events during the 2000-01 athletic year, the most in the history of the school.

For the 10 sports in which official attendance records are kept, 1,110,801 fans passed through the gates of LSU home sporting events this year, bettering the previous mark of 1,090,932 set in the 1999-2000 season.

Football led all sports, as a record 613,274 fans attended the Tigers’ seven home football games. LSU ranked fifth in the nation in football attendance for the 2000 season with an average of 87,610 fans per contest.

Baseball had the second-highest total as 244,662 fans attended regular-season games at Alex Box Stadium. Another 52,666 fans attended the NCAA Regional hosted by LSU, while 3,691 attended the Alumni Game.

Men’s basketball finished third with a regular-season total of 143,580, while the women’s basketball team drew 21,267 fans to its games at the Maravich Assembly Center.

The softball team drew 8,032 fans during the regular-season and another 5,073 for the NCAA Regional, while the gymnastics squad had a total of 7,020 fans attend its home meets.
