OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — LSU softball pitcher Britni Sneed was honored as a First-Team Louisville Slugger/NFCA All American on Wednesday night at the Women’s College World Series banquet at the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Okla.
“There was never any question in my mind that she was a First-Team All-America pitcher,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “She is my fourth First-Team All-American pitcher, and she may be better than anyone that I have coached in that position. Britni is a major reason that these Tigers are here at the Women’s College World Series.”
Sneed completed the season with a record of 35-5 overall, which is an LSU record for single season wins. She leads the Tigers with 379 strikeouts, also an LSU record. Sneed stands 21 strikeouts away from breaking the Southeastern Conference single-season record of 399. She also holds the record for most strikeouts in a single game, sitting down 15 batters against Tulsa and Northwestern State.
The junior completed the SEC season with a record of 21-0 and an ERA of 0.23. She was named the SEC Player of the Year and the SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player. She set a record at the SEC Tournament for striking out 11 batters in one game.
Her season ERA stands at 0.67, which is also a school record and ranks fourth nationally. Sneed set a school record of 16 shutouts this season and has combined for 10 more. The righthander has made 46 appearances in the circle for the Tigers, totaling 251 innings.
“This has always been a dream of mine,” said Sneed. “I feel very honored to receive this award and of course I give all of my credit to God for getting me here.”
Sneed and the Tigers face Stanford at 6 p.m. for their first game of the Women’s College World Series in ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Okla. The game will be televised live by ESPN 2 and will be broadcast by the LSU Sports Network on 107.3 FM and over the Internet at www.LSUsports.net.
