BATON ROUGE — Tommy Banks, LSU’s starting fullback for the past four years, has signed a contract with the San Francisco 49ers.
Banks, who started 28 games during his collegiate career, rushed for 197 yards and two touchdowns during his four years with the Tigers. As a senior, Banks had 82 yards rushing and he caught four passes for 60 yards during the regular-season.
Banks capped his LSU career with perhaps his best game as he caught a career-best seven passes for a career-high 71 yards and two touchdowns in the Tigers’ 28-14 win over Georgia Tech in the Peach Bowl. Banks also rushed for seven yards on three carries against the Yellow Jackets.
“I think it will be a good fit,” Banks said. “They have a couple of fullbacks, but I’m very excited about the opportunity of making the team.”
Banks leaves for mini-camp on Thursday and then he’ll return for training camp in mid-July.
Banks joins Trey Langley (Washington Redskins) and Fred Booker (Philadelphia Eagles) as the three Tigers that have signed free agent contracts thus far.
