BATON ROUGE — LSU junior golfer Meredith Duncan finished in second place Monday in a United States Women’s Open sectional qualifier at the Shady Oaks CC in Dallas.
Duncan was one of four qualifiers for the Women’s Open which is scheduled to begin May 31 at Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.
Duncan, from Shreveport, La., posted a one-over 73 to capture the second qualifying spot available. University of Tulsa player Stacy Prammanasudh was the leading qualifier at the Dallas sectional with a one-under 71.
Duncan, who is averaging 74.24 for the Tigers this year, is ranked 16th in the nation in the College Golf Foundation national rankings and is seventh in the United States among women amateurs in the GolfWeek poll.
Duncan and her LSU teammates are at work getting ready for next week’s NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships which takes place May 22-25 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
