Men’s Golf Travels to Augusta For Cleveland Golf Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. — The 17th ranked LSU men’s golf team will open play Saturday in the Cleveland Golf/ASU Invitational held at Forest Hills Golf Course in Augusta, Ga.

The Tigers are coming off a 13th place finish at the 2001 Schenkel/E-Z-Go Invitational last weekend in Statesboro, Ga. The 13th place finish is the Tigers lowest finish this season next to their 14th place finish at the Red River Classic in October. The Tigers will look to win their fourth tournament of the season in Augusta.

The Tigers shot a total of 890 at the Schenkel. The Tigers finished 26 over par, ahead of North Carolina and Ohio State. The nation’s number one team, the Georgia Bulldogs, won their second Schenkel title in a row, edging host Georgia Southern Universiity by four strokes.

Junior Nathan Goulding finished in a tie for 25th place with four other golfers. Goulding shot a 77 in the first round, but followed that with scores of 70 and 72. Senior Alan Morgan failed to place in the top 20 for the first time this season. He finished in 49th place.

The Cleveland Golf/ASU Invitational will include 15 teams. Southeastern Conference foes Alabama and Tennessee will join the Tigers, and a total of 11 teams participating are ranked in the top 50 by Mastercard.

The tournament will consist of 36 holes Saturday, and will conclude with 18 holes Sunday. Forest Hills Golf Course is a par-72 course, and its yardage is 6,875.
