BATON ROUGE– The LSU men’s golf team moved up one spot to 15th in the latest Mastecard Rankings released this week. The Tigers were 16th last week, in the first rankings by Mastercard this spring.
The Tigers, who are also ranked 20th by Golfweek, will next participate in the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational March 23-24 in Statesboro, Ga. The host of the tournament will be Georgia Southern University. The field is made up of 15 teams, including six from the Souheastern Conference.
The Schenkel may boast the best field the Tigers have been a part of all season. 13 of the 15 teams in the event are ranked by Mastercard this week.
Each SEC team participating is ranked. The Georgia Bulldogs are No. 1, South Carolina is sixth, Florida is 14th, one ahead of the Tigers, Auburn is 29th and Tennessee is 47th.
Clemson is second in the nation, so the country’s top two teams will be in action next week at the Forest Heights Country Club. Georgia won the event last season, with the Bulldogs Bubba Watson claiming medalist honors. The tournament will consist of 36 holes Saturday, and the final 18 on Sunday.
