BATON ROUGE — After winning its third title of the 2000-01 season at the LSU Spring Invitational, the LSU men’s golf team moved to No. 16 in the nation according to the latiest Mastercard Golf Rankings released on Thursday.
The Tigers won the inagural Spring Invitational Tuesday at the University Club, their third title of the season, and second at home. The Tigers also won the eighth-annual Country Club of Louisiana Intercollegiate in October and the Tennessee Tournament of Champions in September in Knoxville, Tenn.
The current MASTERCARD rankings have a definite Southeastern Conference flavor, with seven teams from the SEC in the top 50. The Georgia Bulldogs, the defending SEC champions, are ranked No. 1 in the nation. Florida was eighth, Auburn and Alabama were ranked 26th and 27th respectively, and Ole Miss was 34th. Vanderbilt and Tennessee came in at Nos. 45 and 46.
The Tigers will next participate in the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. March 24-25.
