Softball Returns Home to Face Louisiana Tech

BATON ROUGE — The eighth ranked LSU softball team will face in-state opponent Louisiana Tech in a double header at Tiger Park on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

“If the weather holds out for us, we are always excited to play an in-state opponent,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “We are equally pleased to play at home in Tiger Park, and we look to have a big week with Tennessee coming to town for the weekend. We were beginning to see a glimmer of offensive Tiger attack last Sunday against Florida, and we would like to continue to
improve.”

The double header between the Tigers (20-5, 2-1 SEC) and the Lady Techsters (6-10) will be televised by College Sports Southeast on Cox Communication Channel 18 in Baton Rouge. Game one can be seen at 7 p.m. on Thursday with game two following at 10:30 p.m. Both games of the double header will also air on Friday at 10 a.m.

LSU is 6-0 versus Louisiana Tech all-time. Southeastern Conference pitcher of the week Britni Sneed hurled a no-hitter against the Techsters in 2000 to lead the Tigers to a 6-0 victory. Senior All-American Stephanie Hastings had two hits including one triple for two RBI. In game two of 2000, former-Tiger Tara Asbill hit her ninth home run of the season for three RBI to lead the Tigers to a 8-1 win.

The Tigers enter the game after taking two games from Florida in SEC action over the weekend. Sneed pitched a two-hit, 12 strikeout performance on Sunday to lead the Tigers to a 3-1 victory. Megann Steege came through with the game-winning hit that gave the Tigers the 2-1 lead.

The LSU bats are led by senior speedster Dee Douglas, who has 21 hits for an average of .339. Douglas also leads the team with 17 stolen bases. The Tiger pitching arsenal has a combined ERA of 1.21, led by Sneed (1.26) and Lewis (0.94). Sneed leads the Tigers with 147 strikeouts in 89 innings of work.

The LSU softball team will open SEC home play on Saturday against Tennessee with a double header at 11 a.m. at Tiger Park.
