Sneed Named SEC Pitcher of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU softball All-America pitcher Britni Sneed was named the Southeastern Conference pitcher of the week as announced by the league’s office on Monday.

“Britni has been magnificent all year,” said head coach Yvette Girouard. “In the losses that she has, she only gave up two or three hits each, and she got beat. Obviously she had a great week, but she is also having a great year.”

The junior led her team to four victories this past week, to improve her season record to 12-4. She pitched a total of 23 innings and struck out 41 batters in the process. Sneed only allowed nine hits and two runs to compile an ERA of 0.59 for the week.

On Wednesday against Northwestern State, Sneed matched her LSU single-game record with 15 strikeouts in one game to lead LSU to a 1-0 shutout of the Lady Demons. She also led the eighth-ranked Tigers to two road-SEC victories against Florida, including a two-hit, 12-strikeout performance on Sunday for the 3-1 win.

Sneed has an ERA of 1.26 for the season in 89 innings of work. She leads the team with 147 Ks and four shutouts for the season.

Sneed and the Tigers will face in-state opponent Louisiana Tech on Wednesday at Tiger Park in a double header starting at 5:30 p.m. The games will be televised on tape-delay by College Sports Southeast. The LSU softball team will return to SEC action on Saturday when Tennessee comes to town for a double header at 11 a.m.
