Track Tigers Take Over No. 1 Spot; Women Remain Sixth

BATON ROUGE — After sharing the top spot in the nation with TCU for a week, the NCAA Indoor champion LSU men’s track and field team regained sole possession of the No. 1 ranking in the nation on Tuesday when the latest Trackwire national rankings were released. The Lady Tigers remained sixth in the women’s poll for the second straight week.

The Tigers point total of 52 remained in tact for the second straight week, however, second-ranked TCU dropped a point in the poll to give the Tigers a slight edge. Tennessee and Arkansas share the third spot while Auburn rounds out the top five giving the SEC four of the top five teams.

In the women’s poll UCLA surged past former No. 1 USC to seize the top spot in the nation while the ladies of Troy still remain in second. South Carolina and Arizona share the third spot while BYU rounds out the women’s top five.

The top-ranked Tigers and sixth-ranked Lady Tigers return to action on Friday at the USTCA National Championships, a two-day event at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas featuring a handful of the nation’s top teams.
