Men’s Track Ranked No. 1 Along With TCU; Women Sixth

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s track and field team continues to hold onto the top spot in the Trackwire national rankings, however, this week the Tigers have company, as NCAA Indoor runner-up TCU joins them as co-No. 1.

The Tigers held sole possession for the last two weeks and even increased their point total of a week ago, however, TCU came up with an impressive showing at the Texas Relays earning the meet’s top team honors to pull even in the national rankings.

Tennessee holds the third spot in the men’s poll followed by Arkansas in fourth while USC and Stanford are tied for fifth.

The Lady Tigers hold the sixth spot in the women’s poll and actually dropped one spot despite an impressive showing at the Texas Relays in which they won a pair of relays.

USC continues to hold the top spot in the women’s poll, followed by UCLA in second and a three-way tie for third place between South Carolina, Arizona and BYU.

LSU returns home this weekend for the first time in nearly a month and for the final major home competition on their outdoor schedule at the Alumni Gold Relays on Saturday. Field events get underway at 10 a.m., while track events start at 1:30 p.m.

In addition to the top-ranked Tigers in the men’s competition will be No. 11 Alabama, No. 15 Texas and No. 25 Ole Miss. The Lady Tigers will be the only ranked team in the women’s competition.
