BATON ROUGE — While the outdoor season is barely underway, the LSU men’s track and field team sits in the new and growingly familiar position in which it ended the indoor season – No. 1.
The Tigers hold the top spot in the Trackwire Top 25 outdoor rankings, released Tuesday afternoon. The Tigers grabbed 50 points in the national poll, while NCAA Indoor runner-up TCU sits second with 45 points.
The No. 1 ranking for the Tigers marks their first-ever appearance in the top spot – including this past indoor season when they won their first NCAA Indoor crown in dramatic fashion on March 10.
The SEC holds six of the top 11 spots in the men’s poll with Tennessee sitting third, followed by No. 4 Arkansas, No. 5 Auburn, No. 10 Florida and 11th-ranked Georgia.
The Lady Tigers sit seventh in the women’s poll. NCAA Indoor champion UCLA holds the top spot in the women’s poll followed by USC, Arkansas, Arizona, while South Carolina and BYU share the fifth spot to round out the top five.
Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers head to the University of Houston this weekend for the Tom Tellez Invitational.
