Tigers Fall From Top Spot; Lady Tigers Remain Third

BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s track and field team yielded its No. 1 ranking for the first time this season, falling to No. 3, while the Lady Tigers remained third in the latest Trackwire national rankings.

TCU, which finished second to the Tigers at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, grabbed the No. 1 spot, while Arkansas moved up to No. 2 following a strong showing at the Drake Relays last weekend.

With the Southeastern Conference Championships just over a week away, the Southeastern Conference continues to maintain a strong presence in the men’s top 10, holding seven of the top eight spots. After Arkansas and LSU, Tennessee is ranked fourth, followed by Florida, Alabama, Auburn and Georgia respectively.

The women’s poll saw little change with UCLA and USC holding the top two spots, followed by the Lady Tigers, South Carolina and BYU to round out the top five.

LSU will take this weekend off before heading to Columbia, S.C., for the SEC Championships from May 10-13. The Tigers finished second in Baton Rouge a year ago, while the Lady Tigers finished third.
