1,090,932 Came to See Tigers in 1999-2000

BATON ROUGE — Nearly 1.1 million fans attended LSU sporting events during the 1999-2000 athletic year, the most in the history of the school.

For the 10 sports in which official attendance figures are maintained, 1,090,932 fans passed through the turnstiles during regular and post-season play.

A total of 550,409 fans saw LSU play seven home football games in 1999 at Tiger Stadium, a figure that should grow in the coming years with the addition of 11,600 seats to the stadium beginning in the fall of 2000.

Baseball had the second highest attendance of all LSU sports with 249,320 fans attending games at Alex Box Stadium during the regular season, 4,909 at two exhibition games and 37,378 at LSU games in the NCAA Regional and Super Regional tournaments.

The resurgence of the men’s basketball team drew 181,813 to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center while women’s basketball drew 20,953 during the regular season and 3,418 in its NCAA regional games played in Baton Rouge.

The Tiger softball team drew a total of 11,743 on the year, which included regular season play and the NCAA Regional Tournament played at Tiger Park, while gymnastics drew 9,433 fans for its five meets in the Assembly Center.
