Morgan Selected For NCAA Men’s Golf Regional

BATON ROUGE — LSU golfer Alan Morgan has been chosen to participate in the 2000 NCAA Men’s Golf Regional. The tournament, hosted by Temple, will be played at Glenmaura National Golf Club in Moosic, Pa.

Along with Morgan, who was chosen to participate as an individual, a total of seven Southeastern Conference teams were chosen to participate in the NCAA Regionals this year. Six of the seven teams will compete in the East Regional at Glenmaura, along with Morgan.

The SEC teams in the regional include Georgia, Florida, Auburn, South Carolina, Mississippi State, and Tennessee. Ole Miss was also chosen to participate in the Regionals, but will compete in the Central Region, to be played at Victoria Country Club in Victoria, Texas, hosted by Southwest Texas State.

“Alan deserves it. He’s played well and worked hard all year,” said LSU men’s golf head coach Greg Jones. “His performance has been very consistent in tournament play.”

“It’s a prelude to numerous honors next year, and his performance here at the Regional will solidify his stance as a probable pre-season All-American for next year.”

Morgan led LSU and ranked 12th in the SEC in stroke average this year with a 72.8. The junior from Lake Charles also led LSU tournaments, rounds of par or better, top 10 (five) and top 20 (eight) finishes.

The regional will begin on May 18, and continue through May 20.
