Tennis Duo Moves to No. 9 in the Nation

BATON ROUGE — In the latest set of rankings released Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the LSU men’s tennis team held on to the No. 10 spot.

The Tigers have now been ranked 10th for the past three weeks and have been in the top 10 for four consecutive weeks. LSU coach Jeff Brown is hoping that top-10 ranking will give the Tigers a favorable seed in next month’s NCAA Tournament.

“I think having this ranking will give us a good shot at hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament which has been one of our goals all year,” said Brown. “Other than that, we are looking forward to what the ranking at the end of the year will be and not so much this one.”

While the team did not move forward this week, the Tigers top doubles tandem of Michal Chmela and Dan Kiernan cracked the top 10 for the first time this season. The duo is now ninth in the ITA rankings.

In singles, seniors Tom Hand and Michal Chmela held their positions in the rankings at No. 20 and 23 respectively. Junior Ajay Ramaswami fell seven spots to No. 99.
