Tennis Tigers Put Streak on Line Versus Hogs

BATON ROUGE — The ninth-ranked LSU men’s tennis team will put its six match winning streak on the line on Sunday afternoon when it hosts Arkansas at 1 p.m.

“Arkansas comes in playing some good tennis,” said LSU coach Jeff Brown. “They always get a good performance from Oskar Johansson at No. 1, but they have been playing better throughout the line up. We will have to be ready to step up at every position to get a win.”

LSU (14-2, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) has not lost since a Florida won in Baton Rouge 4-2. Since then, the Tigers have beaten six opponents by a combined score of 38-4, including three shutout wins.

Arkansas (6-10, 2-5) enters the match having lost two straight matches. The Razorbacks have lost three consecutive matches in conference play.

Leading the way LSU in its quest for a seventh straight win are seniors Michal Chmela and Tom Hand. Chmela is ranked 28th in the nation in singles and 14th in doubles with partner Dan Kiernan.

Hand, LSU’s third all-time winningest player, is the highest ranked Tiger at No. 22. His 14-2 dual record is the second best on the team. Only junior Ajay Ramaswami, 15-1, has a better mark in dual matches.

The Razorbacks are sparked by the play of No. 15 Johansson and No. 77 Henrik Tofft.
