Tigers Try to Extend Win Streak at Ole Miss

BATON ROUGE — The 12th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team travels to Oxford, Miss., Wednesday for a meeting with the No. 10 Ole Miss Rebels.

“Ole Miss has been one of the top teams in the nation each of the past few years and this is no excepton,” said LSU coach Jeff Brown.

LSU (13-2, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) enters the match riding a five-match win streak, which includes three shutout victories, 7-0. The Rebels (11-3, 3-1) have won two straight, the last of which was a 7-0 win.

“In order to beat them on the road it will take a great performance. They always have a hostile crowd and if you come away with then you have really earned it,” said Brown.

LSU will be led into the match by seniors Tom Hand and Michal Chmela. Hand is currently ranked 20th in the country while Chmela is 35th. Chmela is also ranked in doubles, No. 21, with partner Dan Kiernan.

In the past two seasons, the Tigers have won three of the four meetings between the two schools, including one in the NCAA Quarterfinals in 1998. Ole Miss took a 5-2 decision a year ago in Baton Rouge.
