BATON ROUGE – Members of LSU’s 12th-ranked men’s tennis team, along with players from the Lady Tigers’ 21st-ranked team were chosen Tuesday to participate in the second-annual Wingspan.com/WTT National Collegiate Tennis Championships.

“I am very pleased that we were selected for this tournament,” said LSU head women’s coach Tony Minnis. “I think it speaks very well of both the men’s and women’s programs here at LSU. It is a great honor to be named as one the top programs in the country.”

The Lady Tigers’ ninth-ranked Bruna Colosio and 75th-ranked Ana Paula Mores were chosen to compete in the event with No. 24 Tom Hand and No. 30 Michal Chmela from the men’s team.

The four LSU tennis players will form two coed squads that will compete against similar coed pairs in a 16 team tournament. The Wingspan.com/WTT National Collegiate Tennis Championship will consist of men and women mixed duos from each of the nation’s top 16 tennis programs.

“Being selected to play in this tournament says a lot about the commitment of all the players and the coaches on these teams,” Minnis said.

LSU’s opponents in the tournament include the winner of the men’s NCAA Championship trophy, Stanford Cardinal, as well as the Georgia Lady Bulldogs, who took home the NCAA Women’s crown. Also competing will be Florida, UCLA, Duke, Tennessee, Pepperdine, Texas, Baylor, USC, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Harvard, and Illinois.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from October 5-8, and will be hosted by Stanford University and Administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
