BATON ROUGE The LSU mens tennis team ended the year ranked 12th in the nation according to the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings releases on Thursday.
“Circumstances didnt allow us to reach our goal of a national championship, but a No. 12 final ranking is something to be proud of,” said LSU coach Jeff Brown. “We need to keep that in perspective and build on it in the future.”
Individually, three Tigers finished the year in the top 100 for the first time since 1998 as seniors Tom Hand, No. 24, Michal Chmela, No. 30 and junior Ajay Ramaswami, No. 100.
“We had some strong individual performances this year and it translated into a strong team finish and a sweet 16.”
The final ranking is the fourth of Chmela of his career and the second for Hand. Ramaswami is ranked at the end of the year for the first time.
In doubles, Chmela and Dan Kiernan ended the year ranked 14th after being as high as ninth this season. The two garnered all-America honors for their top eight seeding in the NCAA Doubles tournament last week.
