Softball Puts Streak on Line Against State

BATON ROUGE- Riding a 13 game winning streak, the No. 8 LSU Tiger softball team travels to face Southeastern Conference opponent No. 19 Mississippi State in double headers on Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. in Starkville.

The games will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Network (107.3 FM) in Baton Rouge and can be heard over the internet at www.LSUsports.net.

“The girls have improved in their play lately, and I feel that we are heading in the direction that we need to be going,” said head coach Glenn Moore. “Our hitting in the second game last night was a little off, but I think that we have the talent and desire to bounce back.”

LSU and MSU have met 11 times in the last four years with LSU winning 10 of the contests. The last time the two met was at the SEC Tournament where the Tigers defeated the Bulldogs 2-0 in a grueling 10 inning semi-final game to advance to the championship game.

The Tigers are now 33-7 overall after shutting out No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette in a double header on Wednesday night. The Tiger pitching staff led the team with Ashley Lewis only giving up one hit in game one to win 4-0. Britni Sneed allowed just four hits to seal game two’s victory at 1-0. LSU’s defense was on fire, keeping the few base runners from scoring.

In game one against the Cajuns, the Tiger bats combined for 10 hits with senior All-American Ashlee Ducote going 3-for-3 with a double.

The Tigers will return home on Tuesday, April 11 for a double header against Louisiana Tech at Tiger Park.
