BATON ROUGE — Five members of the LSU Tigers softball team were named to the 2000 NFCA All-South Region Softball Teams as announced Wednesday by the NFCA.
Pitcher Britni Sneed, second baseman Stephanie Hastings and third baseman Ashlee Ducote were named members of the All-South Region First Team. Pitcher Ashley Lewis and shortstop Tara Asbill were recognized as Second Team All-Region.
“I am proud of the girls,” said head coach Glenn Moore. “This shows that their hard work has paid off. This is really more of a team honor then a individual honor.”
All-America team selections are made from the All-Region teams across the nation.
This is the first time sophomore pitcher Sneed has been selected as a member of the All-South Region First Team. The sophomore currently has an ERA of 1.21 and hold the school record striking out 254 batters in 213.2 innings
this season.
Junior second baseman Stephanie Hastings was recognized for the second time in her career as a member of the First Team. She was first recognized following her freshman season in 1998. The junior is second on the team in hitting with an average of .374.
Senior third baseman Ashlee Ducote is LSU’s returning All-American who has been a member of the 1999 First Team and the 1997 Second Team All-South Region. The senior is the first LSU player to hit over .400 for a season, currently hitting .447 with 10 home runs, eight triples and 14 doubles.
Junior pitcher Ashley Lewis has been named to the All-South Region Team two consecutive years now after being voted to the Second Team. In 1999, Lewis was named to the First Team. The junior now has an ERA of 0.93 and has struck out 132 batters.
Shortstop Tara Asbill finishes off the list for the Tigers with her appointment to the Second Team All-Region. She was also a member of the Second Team in 1998. Asbill is currently hitting .359 for the Tigers.
