BATON ROUGE — LSU softball sophomore Britni Sneed was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office Monday. This is the third time this season Sneed has received this honor.
“Just like a true gamer, Britni’s game gets stronger with each outing,” said head coach Glenn Moore. “She is always confident in the circle and that confidence is contagious to the rest of the team.”
Sneed went 2-0 for the weekend and pitched 13 scoreless innings. She gave up only five hits and retired 13 batters at the plate to lead the No. 7 LSU to a weekend sweep over Kentucky and Tennessee, setting up a showdown versus No. 10 Alabama in Tuscaloosa this weekend for the overall league title and No. 1 seed in the SEC tournament.
Sneed has now pitched 19 consecutive scoreless innings in her last three outings. This weekend she pitched her sixth and seventh shutouts of the season, bringing her career mark to 15, which ties the school record.
Overall this season, Sneed has set and continues to build LSU records for the most strikeouts in a single season and the most innings pitched in a season. She has struck out 233 batters to date in 191 innings. She has a 1.21 ERA and an overall record of 22-5.
Sneed and the Tigers will face Alabama in an SEC showdown for the regular season championship this Friday and Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
