BATON ROUGE — Riding an eight-game winning streak, the No. 7 LSU Tiger softball team will square off Friday against the Kentucky Wildcats in a match-up between the Southeastern Conference Eastern and Western Division leaders.

The double header will begin at 5 p.m. at Tiger Park and will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Network (107.3 FM in Baton Rouge) and www.LSUsports.net.

“The next two weeks are very important to us as a team,” said head coach Glenn Moore. “We are in a race for the championship, and every game is important. The girls know how serious each game is and are ready to play their hearts out.”

LSU (47-8 overall) enters the weekend leading the SEC by a single game with a record of 20-2, having played two fewer games than Alabama, at 21-3. LSU will make up that difference this weekend, playing four games, while Alabama plays only a two-game set with Georgia on Saturday. The two teams will meet for the Southeastern Conference regular season championship on May 5-6 in Tuscaloosa.

Kentucky, which has clinched its first winning season ever, is trying to get the league’s No. 2 seed by winning the Eastern Division. The Lady Kats are 11-9 in the SEC and has an overall record of 32-23. The Tigers and Wildcats have met a total of four times in the last four years with LSU sweeping all four of the contests.

The Tigers will finish the weekend Sunday with a twinbill against the Lady Vols of Tennessee at noon. The 2000 senior class will be featured before the noon start, as this is the final home series of the regular season.
