BATON ROUGE — LSU softball sophomore Britni Sneed was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
“Britni had a great weekend,” said LSU pitching coach Brandi Landry. “She has been working hard and has gotten better and better as the season progresses. She was very much in control this weekend and that is a tribute to her hard work and focus.”
Sneed went 3-0 this past week improving her record to 18-5 overall for the Tigers. She pitched her second collegiate no-hitter on April 11 against Louisiana Tech and had a complete game shutout against No. 19 South Carolina on April 14.
For the week, Sneed pitched 19 innings, giving up only four hits and walking two. She retired 25 batters at the plate and did not allow a run.
Sneed also broke two LSU career records over the weekend. She passed former player Sarah KnifeChief for most career starts at 52 and also broke her own record for most strikeouts in a single season with 207. She is also tied with KnifeChief and Ashley Lewis for the most career wins at LSU with 41.
Overall for the Tigers, Sneed’s ERA is 1.37 in 164.0 innings pitched.
Sneed and the Tigers will play a single game against Southwest Texas State on Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. and will host an important SEC series this weekend at Tiger Park on Friday and Saturday against Arkansas.
Friday’s double header will begin at 6 p.m., with game one being televised live by SEC-TV (Fox Southwest Channel 26 in Baton Rouge). Saturday’s games will begin at 1 p.m. and all four SEC games will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Network (107.3 FM in Baton Rouge).
