Diver Fox Finishes 6th at NCAA’s

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — LSU junior diver Corey Fox finished the platform diving event in sixth-place Saturday at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships. Fox’s finish boosted the Tigers’ final ranking to 23rd in the nation.

“Corey came through with a great performance today in the platform competition,” said LSU head coach Rick Meador. “He’s a very talented diver and can compete with the best athletes in the nation in all three of the diving events.”

Fox improved upon his 13th-place finish in the platform diving competition from last season with Saturday’s sixth-place performance in the event. Fox scored 475.40 points to finish sixth. University of Miami’s Tyce Routson won the event with a final score of 596.10.

LSU ended the 1999-00 season ranked 23rd in the nation. The Tigers have finished ranked among the top 25 for six-straight years dating back to the end of the 1994-95 season.

Last year LSU scored 53 total team points in the NCAA Championship meet to finish ranked 18th in the nation. This season the Tigers ended the NCAA Championship as the 23rd-ranked team in the nation by scoring 25 team points.

“All three of our guys did an outstanding job this weekend,” Meador said. “We didn’t qualify as many athletes as we usually do this season, but Neal (Satterly), Rodrigo (Castro), and Corey all gave 110 percent in this meet and I am extremely proud of them.”

The University of Texas won the 1999-00 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship with a total team score of 538. Auburn University was the highest finishing Southeastern Conference team here in Minneapolis, Minn. Auburn finished in second-place with 385 total points.
