Lady Tigers 2nd, Tigers 6th in Track Rankings

BATON ROUGE — With a weekend off to prepare for next weekend’s SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Bernie Moore Track Stadium, the Lady Tigers hold the No. 2 ranking in the nation in the newly released Trackwire Top 25, while the Tigers are ranked sixth in the men’s poll.

In all, six SEC women’s team are ranked and eight men’s teams heading into the 68th SEC Championships next Thursday through Sunday on the campus of LSU. The conference meet comes to Baton Rouge for the first time since 1991.

Texas continues to hold the top spot in the women’s poll with 66 points, while the Lady Tigers find themselves 10 points back. Southern California is ranked third followed by South Carolina and UCLA to round out the top five.

Other ranked SEC teams in the women’s poll are No. 7 Arkansas, co-No. 18 Florida and Georgia and No. 20 Auburn.

The men’s poll has a decidedly SEC flavor to it, particularly the top 11. Arkansas continues to hold the top spot, while Auburn ranks third in the nation. Also in the top 11 are No. 6 LSU, No. 8 Florida and 11th-ranked South Carolina.

Other SEC teams ranked in the men’s poll are No. 13 Tennessee, No. 19 Alabama and No. 23 Georgia.

The Tigers finished second at the recent SEC Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., in February, while the Lady Tigers placed fourth. The Tigers will be gunning for their first outdoor title since 1990, while the Lady Tigers will try to regain the title they last held in 1996.
