Track To Host Alumni Gold Meet

BATON ROUGE — The LSU track and field welcomes some of its past athletes in the annual Alumni Gold Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Bernie Moore Track and Field Stadium on the LSU campus.

Field events will get underway at 10 a.m. with track events starting at 1 p.m.

The Alumni Gold Invitational will not be a scored meet but it will consists of athletes from the following schools: Lamar, Army, Hinds Community College, Loyola-New Orleans, Nicholls State, Navy, Southern Miss, Deep South Speed Demons, New Orleans, South Florida, Louisiana-Lafayette, Southeastern Louisiana, Northwestern State, Jackson State and Memphis.

“We’ve been very pleased with the way things have been going,” said LSU head coach Pat Henry. Our up-front players have been doing an outstanding job. This meets gives our other players (including our younger athletes) a chance to compete in a venue that doesn’t put much pressure on them.”

Following their NCAA Indoor titles in their respective events, pole vault champion Russ Buller and triple jump winner Keisha Spencer will look to continue their dominance in the second home outdoor meet of the season.

In addition, various competitors from the Canadian Olympic team and LSU’s former All-American and Olympic Gold medalist Glenroy Gilbert will be participating.

This is the conclusion of the regular season home appearances for LSU during the outdoor season. LSU travels to Austin, Texas for the USTFA meet on April 21-22.
