EUGENE, Ore. — After leading the LSU women’s outdoor track and field team to its 12th NCAA Championship early in June, Peta-Gaye Dowdie finished third behind world-class sprinter Marion Jones in the 100 meter dash at the 2000 Prefontaine Classic Saturday in Eugene, Ore.
Representing her home country of Jamaica, Dowdie finished in 11.20 while Jones won the event at 10.93 and the USA’s Torri Edwards finished second at 11.09.
Derrick Brew, a member of the 2000 LSU Track and Field team who entered the Prefontaine Classic with the second-fastest time in the world, finished seventh with a time of 45.50. Michael Johnson won the event in 43.92.
LSU hurdler Joyce Bates finished eighth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.51. Gail Devers won the event in 12.64.
