CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Ashley McElhiney scored 14 points to lead Vanderbilt in upsetting No. 10 LSU 59-46 in the SEC tournament quarterfinals.
LSU (22-6) now has lost four straight tournament games. They had the worst half ever by a LSU team in the first when they hit just 5-of-26 for only 11 points, way below their previous low of 20 points against Purdue in 1989.
Zuzi Klimesova finished with 10 points, and Chantelle Anderson had 13.
The Lady Tigers came in with four starters averaging in double figures. Leading scorer Marie Ferdinand was 2-of-11 for four points.
Only April Brown (15) and Katrina Hibbert (10) got into double digits for LSU.
The Tigers didn’t quit despite turning in their worst scoring performance of the season. They pulled within four twice, the last at 37-33 on a three-point play by Brown with 7:59 remaining.
But Anderson hit a jumper, and LSU never threatened again.
