Lee Wins 2nd Career Title at Lady Gamecock

COLUMBIA, S.C. — LSU senior golf Lisette Lee won her second career individual title Sunday capturing the Lady Gamecock Classic at the University Club.

Lee, from Kenner, won the LSU-Fairwood Invitational as a freshman and becomes only the fifth female golfer at LSU to win at least two tournament individual championships.

Lee finished at four-over par 220 after closing with a three-over par 75 to win by two strokes over Tennessee’s Young-A Yang. Lee had rounds of 73 and 72 in the first two days.

Lee’s finish highlighted a strong team second place finish for the LSU women’s golf team, it’s best finish of the 1999-2000 season. Duke was the winner of the tournament at 36-over 900 with rounds of 309-292-299. The Lady Tigers had rounds of 310-305-304 for a 55-over par 919, 18-shots ahead of third-place South Carolina.

“This was a very strong week for our team,” said LSU coach Karen Bahnsen. “I’m so happy for Lisette. She has wanted this for a long time and has been working very hard. It’s also great to see three LSU players in the top 10. The weather conditions were very erratic here this weekend and the way we played is a good indicator that we are getting our games together as we head to the end of the season.”

Besides Lee, sophomore Tina Howard from New Zealand continues to shine after missing the entire fall schedule rehabbing from hand surgery. Howard finished sixth for LSU with a 12-over par total for 54 holes of 228 (76-75-77), while Shreveport sophomore Meredith Duncan posted her fourth top 10 of the season with a ninth-place finish at 14-over 230 (80-75-75).

Junior Katy Wilkinson finished in a tie for 36th for the Tigers at 25-over par 241 after shooting the final counting score of 77 on Sunday.
