BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s golf team, coming off a third straight top 10 finish at the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships, was ranked sixth Wednesday in the final MasterCard Collegiate Women’s Golf Rankings.
The Tigers remained sixth in the final poll, the second team from the East region in the poll and the top team from the Southeastern Conference.
It is the highest end-of-season ranking for the Lady Tigers since the 1997-98 season, when LSU was also sixth in the final rankings.
The Lady Tigers were 10th last week in the NCAA Division I Women’s Championships in Sunriver, Ore. LSU moved from 14th to 10th on the final day of the competition at the Crosswater Country Club.
Four LSU players were ranked in the top 100 in the final national rankings, topped by Shreveport sophomore Meredith Duncan. Duncan, who finished in a tie for seventh in the national championships after playing the last 38 holes in four-under par, was ranked 16th in the nation in the final rankings.
LSU senior Lisette Lee from Kenner finished her career ranked 26th in the country, while sophomore Tina Howard of New Zealand earned a 55 ranking for playing just half-a-season after tendon surgery forced her out all fall. Junior Katy Wilkinson of South Bend, Ind., was ranked 84th in the final national rankings.
LSU was one of three SEC teams in the top 10 with Georgia right behind LSU in seventh and Auburn in eighth. Tennessee was ranked 12th in the final poll.
